Scripture
“Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.” - Luke 9:44
Observation
What the apostles must have thought of this God-man that lovingly cared for his people, touching and healing even the most wretched, giving them hope and knowledge while also speaking of his doom at their very hands. The loved flowed freely because our Lord is incapable of shutting off that flow even in the face of trauma and pain. Betrayal and death approach, yet he carries on, even charting a course for the place of that death because there is no greater act of love than what he is about to go through.
Application
There is no excuse for not loving those around us. That lousy driver, the plumber who ripped us off, the neighbour whose dog peed on our roses, they’re all God’s people. If Jesus can love them, then so can we. It’s not like they’re fixing to nail us to a tree.
Prayer
Father, let your example guide me in my dealings with those around me. Let my wisdom shine, let my love show, keep this goofy grin affixed whenever I interact with those around me. I can’t heal their ills like you can, but maybe I can contribute something to their well-being through humour and simple kindness.
