Scripture

“But Jesus said, ‘Someone did touch me, for I was aware that power had gone out of me.’”  - Luke 8:46

Observation

A bleeding woman, a person who seems lacking in hope, sees something in Jesus. She knows who he is, doesn’t doubt him, and struggles to get close enough for just a touch of his clothing. Among the dozens of people clamouring to touch the Lord, this woman is not only healed completely, but her healing is detected by Jesus. He calls her out and praises her for her faith.

Application

God’s power isn’t something you wait for or cry about lacking. It’s there, behind door number one, and the key that opens that door is faith. Not the kind of faith that causes us to get to church every Sunday or the kind of faith that makes our wallets spring open when the collection plate passes, but the kind of faith that has transformed itself into knowledge. Knowledge that the Lord is there for us, Knowledge that the sacrifice he made for us was real. Once faith has passed to this stage, doubt loses its foothold and the power of God can truly work within us.

Prayer

Jesus, I ask that you be patient with me, and that you guide me as my faith becomes knowledge. I’m coming along well, Lord, but this is a world which often ridicules faith, and I fight always to avoid succumbing to its pressures. Fight alongside me, Lord, for then I can never lose.
